Basketball Question
I'm trying. I really am. I've watched the entire Cavs-Heat game tonight. Gin and tonic helps.
I can't believe I don't know this... but I can believe I'm too lazy to look it up myself.
Andy/Nick: When a player gets fouled during a shot, does it count as an attempt? I am almost positive the answer is "No" but I wasn't 100% sure. Assuming that is the answer, I thought it would be cool if it counted towards their percentage if they made the shot and was disregarded if they missed.

A missed shot doesn't count as an attempt. I'm 99.9% certain that a converted shot counts as an attempt.
So yep, it's cool.
And logical! When you miss and are fould the attempt is covered in your foul shots - when you score it has to be recorded.
I don't like the way some people in pickup games claim that if you call a foul while shooting and score, that you get the foul and not the basket. That's stupid. In the real game you get the basket PLUS a foul shot - here all you're getting is the bucket, which is fair. Plus, you wouldn't even get FT's in pickup. Shots count when you don't get fouled - why wouldn't it because someone hacked you?
Andy, I completely agree with you here. No foul shots in pickup means that there's no real incentive not to foul if you get beat by your man. It only makes sense that your shot counts if you make it while being fouled, especially if you're playing less than five-on-five, because otherwise the game will just turn into a hackfest.
Wait, I just read this again and I'm confused.

But free throws don't go into your stats for field goals, right? Like when they say someone went 5 for 10 on the night. That doesn't include free throws. Therefore, the attempt isn't covered by foul shots, correct?
We're saying the same thing here. FT's and FG's are recorded separately, you're right. I'm suggesting that, when you're fouled and miss the shot, instead of having 1 FG attempt in your stat line you'll end up with 2 FT's.
